Cyril circled Diane, examining her. Her skills were rusty, but she knew more than the others, that was obvious. After having her stand back in line, without trying another move on her, he had the others try the fall. Only when he found someone that could stand a chance against Diane did he pair everyone off.
Glancing at Lynn of Kennan, Cyril suddenly looked towards where a feline was sitting. His eyes met the animal's and he held them. Ah, either the Goddess is having more fun and has sent yet another of her cats to help a female page, or this girl has the power to communicate with the little beastie he thought to himself.
Again, his gaze settled upon Lynn, a small smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. "Alright, that's enough practice everyone. I expect that the next time we meet, you will be able to fall accurately! If you cannot manage that much, you are in no shape to become a knight. Everyone is dismissed save for Lynn of Kennan."

Diane was sweating by the time they finished, though not a lot. She said, "Yes sir, i'll talk to you later Lynn" and left.

Cyril crossed his arms over his chest, waiting for the others to leave. Once they were gone, he turned to Lynn, a small smile crossing his lips.

Lynn winced; what'd she done this time? She pictured her parents, how ashamed they'd be to see her kicked out in her first class. She approached the Shang with her head bowed in shame.
"Yes sir?" Here it came. She must have said something offending, that was probably it. She always had a knack at offending people. Oh, she only hoped he wasn't to harsh on her. She hated dissapointing people.

The shang gazed down at her, his expression friendly. "How badly do you want knighthood?" he asked softly, "and has that pet o' yours told you anything usefull yet? I always thought felines were smarter than most animals."

Lynn was curious of his first question and surprsied by his comment. "How did you-" her father had not told anyone of her wildmagic, because she had begged him to keep it secret. She enjoyed using it, but other people thought it made her a freak.
"No sir, I'm afraid Emerald knows as much about knighthood as I do, perhaps less. And I want to be a knight more than anything." It was true, she wanted to prove what she was made of, what she was worth.
"But, how did you know?"

Cyril gave a childish grin, stretching his arms into the air. "A shang isn't allowed to have any sort of Gift. We survive on our inner strength...our willpower so to say. Due to being away from magic, any types, for many, many years, I have become accustomed to sensing it. Most get freaked out, but most of my family have the Gift."
Looking up at the sky, he watched as some sparrows chirped at oneanother as they flew overhead. "Besides, the birds are restless. That can only be caused by being upset or angry at something, or worried. Your cat worries them because they have little chickletts of their own."
Sighing, he looked down at the lass, his face serious. "As for you wanting to be a knight, you must learn the basics. I'm warning you now that I will give you extra work. I can tell when someone has potential in mastering skills belonging to the Shang as well as the knights. However, it depends on that person's determination whether they will succeed in the future or not."
Turning his back to her, he walked over towards the creature sitting on a fencepost. He slipped his hand out to the cat, scratching behind its ear. "Keep your eyes on that one young master," he softly spoke to Emerald.

Emerald arched her back and rubbed her head against Cyril's hand, purring loudly. Don't worry, I'll make sure she works hard. Lynn sighed. Cats.
"I'm going to suceed sir, there's no other option." If she didn't become a knight, her father would marry her off. But if she won her sheild, who would want to marry her then? It was her only option; become a knight.
Hearing the bell in the distance, she mentally sighed. Bowing respectfully, she said good-bye to Cyril.
"Are you coming?"
No. I rather like this man. Lynn rolled her eyes at Emerald. Figures.
"Thank you sir." Lynn ran off, praying with all her might that she would not be late to the evening meal.
