Lord Rory sat, tailor-style against the wall next to the door. He stifled a yawn as he listened to the bell toll, ruefully wishing he had gone to bed at some decent hour rather than out meeting friends.

A tall black haired girl with dark blue eyes walked in. Looking around the training area, she wondered if she was in the right place. Then turning, she saw the man against the wall looking about to fall asleep. "Um, hello?" she asked cautiously, hoping he might know where the shang master was.

Diane walkes in briskly looking around for other people. It seemed that this time of year there weren't many people in the palace. "Oh, hello..umm...Kivarei. You're here too?" then she noticed the man against the wall and said to him "Nice day isn't it my Lord? You're our teacher for now i suppose."

Lord Rory stood, "Welcome to Unarmed combat training," he said with a smile. "I am Rory, but etiquette dictates that you address me as My Lord. I will be your teacher until a suitable replacement can be found elsewhere." He didn't add that he was looking forward to the day when he could join most of his friends on the northern front. Instead, he appraised the girls, wondering how skilled they would turn out to be

Diane went over to the side wall and leaned against it. She thought about what he was implying and said cosiously,"My Lord, you wish to be at the northern border, don't you? Since i believe that any person that teaches a class should be suitable to teach it."

Rory thought for a moment, wondering if answering such a question would undermine his position. Then he shrugged, not thinking it would make any difference. "I think there are others with more experience who would be better teaching you all. I've barely passed the Ordeal myself." He ran a hand through his dark hair

"I don't mean anything by being blunt sir" Daine said" but at least you passed the Ordeal, wern't there 2 people the year above Keldry of Mindelan that were killed by the Chamber."

Rory folded his hands behind his back, glancing up towards the sky. "It's true... There was one who died from my year as well..." he paused, remembering the squire, then looked back at her. "But it's something we all must face one way or another"

Lynn of Kennan ran as fast as she could. She was supposed to be taking unarmed combat training right now, but a third year page and made her fetch his riding boots and had made her dreadfully late. Now she only hoped she would not be scorned to terribly for her late arrival.
When she finally found where the classes were supposed to take place, she felt an uneasy feeling in her gut. Lynn recognized not a one of these three people, the girls nor the man. How embaressing! She heard the man adressed as My Lord and felt a bit more confident. At least he might be able to help her out.
"My Lord, may I ask where unarmed combat is taught? I just arrived a couple days ago, and I'm still unfamiliar with the palace grounds."

Rory raised an eyebrow slightly. "This is where you learn unarmed armed combat... I am your Lord Training Master. And you are...?"

"Lynn of Kennan," she introduced herself polietly. Her cheeks were red from embaressment, but she hid it well. She looked at the other two girls, smiling in form of a greeting. It was better than being surrounded by boys, this she had to admit. Ever since Lade Keladry of Mindelan had become a lady knight, many girls had started trying for a sheild.
But they don't have such restrictions that they may be called back home at a moment's notice. She thought with a tinge of bitterness.

Cyril, a man of 27, walked up beside Lord Rory, his hands resting behind his head. Standing casually, he gazed at the few females who were awaiting their first lesson in unarmed combat. " 'Ey, sorry I'm late. I became distracted on my way here." Nudging the man lightly in the ribs, he grinned, "many pretty ladies in the city, you know?"
Clearing his throat, he suddenly became very serious. "I'm the Shang Eagle, your unarmed combat master. I will be taking over as of now since your Lord Master Rory knows more about weapon usage than the special techniques of the Shang."
Walking in front of the females, he looked each one over. "Stand up straight, don't slouch, and don't look so tired or worried."

Lynn did as he instructed, feeling rather awkward. She had inherited her sire's hieght and was tallen than many girls two or three years older than herself. She always slouched a bit, usually to blend in with those her own age.
She put on a very neutral expression, which was a struggle. Unlike the wiser nobles who hid easily behind poker faces when it was nessacary, Lynn's features were nearly always quite expressive.

Noticing the lass's unease, Cyril walked towards her, stopping in front of her though he looked away from her. "Don't worry lass, I don't bite," he stated, mistaking her insecurity of her height for nervousness of lessions.
"Though I don't bite, my horse does. If you wander into the stables, stay away from him. He'll be the one with his rear to the door," he said with a grin. The stableboy had already gotten taught a lesson earlier that morn.

Rory cast his eye over the pages briefly. "Enjoy your lesson," he said with a half-grin, knowing full-well that pages spent most of their first unarmed combat lesson collecting bruises on the floor. "But don't be late for your next class." He gave a brief nod to the Shang Eagle, then calmly left the room
