Lord Rory stood in the centre of the training arena, a long wooden staff resting over his shoulder and an impatient expression on his face. This was the first class for pages this year, and he had hoped they would actually be on time. Although it was looking increasingly unlikely...

Diane walked into the arena on her way to the archery range, a longbow and quiver over her shoulder, looking around. she noticed a man standing in the center and decided to introduce herself."Hello i'm Diane of Olau. Who are you and why do you look annoyed?"

Rory turned to examine the newcomer with a surprising depth. Eventually, he gave a slight nod. "I am Sir Rory," he said, choosing not to add the title. I will be your Training Master until someone can be spared from the frontline." He did not answer the second question

ah yes, now Diane remembered this to be the Lord of Goldenlake. She heard he would be a teacher for the pages and squires. "Pleased to meet you sir," she said with a bow. A look of intrest spread across her face as she realized that her first real day as a page was beginning.

Rory nodded his head. "Just go and pick a stave from the stand," he said, pointing to the wall by the door, "and get a feel for it. They all have basically the same weight, but some people think each weapon is different." He shrugged, as though he couldn't understand what that was all about.

Diane nodded and went to get a stave. She carefully tested each until she found a nice one, the turned back and said " My Lord I think that some are a little bit heavier than others and those that complain arn't stong enough or to strong for the one they chose, just my thinking sir." She twirled the stave in her hand easily as though bored with it already.

Rory shrugged non-committally, tapping the end of his stave impatiently on the dirt floor. "Did everyone leave your last class on time?" he asked

Diane put her staff against the wall for a moment thinking. "I'm not sure sir, i saw some people staying to debate something."

Rory sighed, but nodded, resigned to the wait. He scruffed his hand through his hair, messing it up, although he had been told many times that such an action was unseemly in one of the peerage. That had never bothered him.
